School Community Councils

Being part of the School Community Council (SCC) is a valuable way to get involved, share your voice, and represent the community in important school decisions. In partnership with school administration, the SCC reviews achievement data, identifies academic needs, and contributes to school improvement efforts. The council also develops the annual School LAND Trust Plan and other academic plans that support student success. Councils act in an advisory capacity to the school and district administrators.

All parents are welcome to attend School Community Council meetings and give input, although only council members may vote. For more information on School Community Councils, visit the School LAND Trust website.

Council Member Qualifications

Councils are composed of parent members and school employees. Membership terms are for two years. Parent members must have a student attending the school for at least one of the two years of their term of service. Employees must be employed by the school district at the school.

Council Member Elections

SCC elections for open seats occur at the beginning of the school year (August/September).  Election information will be posted here.  If you are interested in joining the School Community Council, please contact the school principal for information on how to apply.

School Community Council Elections – Candidate Information
We invite Hillcrest Junior High parents and guardians to make a difference by serving on our School Community Council (SCC). The council provides a meaningful opportunity to share your voice, represent our families, and help shape decisions that support student success. We are currently accepting candidates for one (1) open parent/guardian position serving a two-year term from 2026–2027 through 2027–2028. We hope you will consider joining us!

Here are the details:
Parent/Guardian Members must have a child at the school for at least one of the two years of their term, may not hold an educator’s license and work at the school, and are elected by the parents/guardians of children enrolled at the school.

Election Dates:
The election will take place from September 10 through 22, 2026.

How to Get on the Ballot:
If you are a parent or school employee interested in serving on the council, please complete and submit a candidate form to the school office by September 22, 2026. You can pick up forms in the main office.

What Happens Next:
If we receive more candidate forms than available positions, we will hold a vote from September 23-25, 2026.

We encourage all parents to consider this opportunity to be involved in meaningful decisions that affect our school community.

If you have any questions, please contact Principal Salinas at 801-264-7442.
